Skeletons are bony

I don’t think I made a significant leap in my lessons today, but I did learn more about the skeletons of the models/meshes and how they work. In the pictures here I show how I was adding props to the model by attaching them to a specific socket. So that when it moves around the objects will continue to follow them. The Unreal Engine marketplace has loads of free assets. I found a free medieval pack of weapons.

This lesson will be useful when I eventually attach the lantern I have yet to create. Also I still need to figure out how to create the character itself, after a lot of searching I think I have found a video that is best suited for my needs. There doesn’t seem to be a whole series that shows, “how to make 3rd person game from scratch.” I think it’s safe to assume most people don’t do it on their own. Perhaps in the future I won’t be doing this alone. Though, for now, I will continue to overload my brain with information.

I’m still worried about the shading and whatnot, but Nintendo has a good design philosophy where they put ‘play’ first. So it’s important that I build the character and what he can do (mechanics), and then build the world for him. At least I have some sort of workflow or lesson plan of my own devising. I know I’m going to be using Blender again very soon (and re-learning the basics).

In my YouTube ‘Watch Later’ list there are already a few lectures from Unreal that are at least an hour and a half long for each one. So, I’m really looking forward to that *sarcasm*.
