From learnings to form

Unreal has a few quick tutorials that show off some random features from the engine. I spent the early parts of my day watching a few of these to get some inspiration while thinking about that my next step was. I knew that I wanted to fix to fix the whip, because previously the would not me coming from the hand, but instead from the character’s chest. Since the tutorial I watched was meant for a first person character, the issues I had were not addressed. Thankfully I thought more about how to play around with the cable actor and a tutorial from awhile back showed me how to spawn an object that I can attached the cable to.

So all on my own I deleted all the old sequences for the whip and created a whole new one. This one spawns an invisible object at a point of impact, the cable/whip then attaches to this point then detaches to simulate a whip effect. The invisible actor is then destroyed so it doesn’t become a problem having all these invisible actors in the world. I finally fixed the biggest issue I had with the whip rendering. I should be finishing the whip abilities soon, the last one should be the swinging. With it being able to do damage that should be simple enough compared to everything prior. After that I’ll work on getting the lantern to affect objects in the world as well.
