Tons of screenshots ahead be warned. I watched a quick tutorial on how to incorporate shaders into the game, I’m not sure if this is the best approach for me, but it’s the only one I can think of for now. I need to figure out the perfect settings so I can achieve the aesthetic I’m going for. Do I want it really dark, noir or something else. So far it looks a bit cartoony or comicbook-like, but I can adjust the settings for that. It’s important I figure out this step before I start working on the lantern because the lantern is has big piece when it comes to the lighting and color. This needs to be just right.
I’m just gonna dump all the screenshots here. I also put the character in some environment examples to see what it would look like in different situations. It looks very pleasing. I need to continue adjusting the settings so that I can fine tune it to the way I want it to be. The blueprint for the shaders is quite large but it’s not very complicated. It basically looks at every pixel and adjusts the color around it accordingly. The video from Unreal gave me a way to outline objects, whether I will keep that look is yet to be seen.
