Couldn’t think of a clever title for today’s post so let’s just get to it. I finally finished the tutorial, and a lot of it was stuff I already knew, but it was great to be reminded anyway. Luckily the video taught me exactly what I was looking for, post-processing. It basically affects the look of the game, as if you were filtering the lens through specific settings. Which is what I had been doing with the shading, but the video showed me more settings that I played around with, and I will work on doing more research on it. I learned about a wonderful tool, the foliage tool. With it I can plant objects onto a space such as grass trees and rocks. Today’s work was very therapeutic and relaxing.
The tutorial had me creating a scene with a cabin in the middle of serene wilderness with a lovely campfire as well. I had to find some free 3D assets online so it all worked out. There were nice grass assets I had saved from the market that were perfect for this scene. It swayed and moved around the character when you walk through it. After everything was placed then it was on to the finishing touches. Adjusting the lighting, the sun placement, shadows, lens flare, bloom, and adding fog. All of this really put together a great atmosphere so I’m glad I decided to finish this long video. I might do another tutorial from the same guy, doesn’t matter how long, I need to learn. Once finished I played around with the colors and lights to find out what looked great and I think the results are quite pretty. Great lighting really makes for gorgeous aesthetics. I probably won’t go for cel-shading, just strong contrast and high saturation to really bring out the colors and the shadows.
Threw in the firefly and leaf particle effects I had and it made for some nice pictures. Next up is starting the first level.
