Preparing for the future

Again I have changed the statue in the hall, this time it is a wolf. This time I think I’ll keep this one. It’s cool, it’s a hunter, you can hop on top of it, and I think it fits the best. I finished two more rooms today, giving them their own personalities. Tomorrow I might look for a new place to find props, so I can have more variety, or perhaps limiting myself to these certain props is the theme in itself. Either way I need to keep getting more creative with each room I do so each one is special. Besides that I fixed an issue where it was difficult to inspect an object, and I turned off all the torches by default. It didn’t make sense that all torches were lit when you entered the hall, now you have to turn them on manually. It will also help in keeping track of which rooms the player has visited.

And for the future I refined the whip a bit more so that it attaches to the object it hits, this in preparation for fighting an AI entity. Hopefully it won’t be too hard to hit it, and I want it to feel fun to fight. I’ve come to an agreement with myself that once I’m done dressing up all the rooms in the first floor I will take a break from level design and start the combat work. This could be the biggest step in this game’s development as I must be fully prepared to be frustrated and patient.

I should have probably started with the combat before creating the level, since it is more important to the gameplay. But in honesty I knew it would be more difficult so I started out with the easier task. I’ll get there, slowly and surely.
