Well not that many problems, but now that I am adding sounds, it shows how much things actually lacked sound. So I added better jumping sounds, landing, dashing. I added sound to the boss for his footsteps, attack, and firewave too. I tried looking for free music, but couldn’t find any that felt right yet. The whip sound I was using had this weird extra sound at the tail end so I used audacity to cut it out. I have no idea how to use the program but it was easy enough to get in and out quick using the chopping tool. Added impact sounds as well for the whip. Now I’ve identified an issue where the whip can go through walls. That’s my fault for letting it ignore certain objects and only looking for specific ones. I’ll fix that once I’m feeling satisfied with the sound work for the level.
There’s sound for the torches when they light and the doors when they open, also the objects you inspect have a sound effect as well. I tried adding a fire effect to the player when he was hit with the fire wave, but I couldn’t get rid of it after. I’ll go back to that later to try and implement it. My next priority is finding or creating music that will fit the level. I’ve brightened up the lighting a bit too so it’s clear enough, but that may make the boss too easy. I’m thinking of using a lightning effect so it can momentarily illuminate even the darkest spots, plus it’s dramatic and epic. While working on the sounds it’s easy to get distracted by the other functions I wanna fix or implement. Since I’m working solo I need to remind myself to focus on the task at hand which is currently the sound. There’s so much I still need to figure out. I’m sure there are settings I’m missing that could make the sounds appear to be more realistic, or fit the environment.
Something slow and menacing, that’s what I’m looking for in terms of the feel of the soundtrack for this stage. And the grind continues.
