Lightning and thunder

Since I got rain going I thought I would figure out how to add lightning. I went the simple route and added lights outside the windows that would flash, and then thunder sound would play after. It’s pretty straight forward but it’s effective at adding more atmosphere to the boss fight.

I got thunder sounds online and cut them up so I could randomize it. Unfortunately the thunder comes with rain sounds, but it’s not too noticeable next to the already existing rain that is playing in the background. As long as I don’t make it too loud it doesn’t break the immersion. Once I got the lightning functioning well enough from one side I repeated it for the two other sides. I’ll probably go back to improve the lighting, especially with how it flashes randomly, I could make it more realistic. I need to watch more lightning videos.

Basically I turn the light bright then off then bright again, simulating flashing light, randomizing the intensity and delay between flashes. I also randomize the delay between the thunder sound playing. It might be good to tie in the brightness of the lightning to the volume of the thunder. That wouldn’t be hard to do. Not a lot of updates today, last thing I did was add some dust effects to the boss’ footsteps when he does certain moves.

Happy Christmas Eve’s eve!
