Today I didn’t exactly accomplish what I had planned or set out to do, and I think that’s okay. This whole process I have no idea what the actual steps I need to take are, I’m making things up as I go. When I started looking into knocking down a third person character I couldn’t find what I wanted. A lot of it were using ragdoll effects, so it tends to be random and chaotic. I tried it out and watched some videos, but in the end it wasn’t what I was looking for. It looked really wonky and funny, but that also had to do with my physics asset (the one with all the big capsules). Maybe it will have a use later on.
The next item on the agenda was using props to do damage. I was thinking of using the whip to grab them, but most of the objects I put were large. Evidently I did set out to do what I had planned, but in a way I did not see at first. Now the objects can hurt enemies if hurled directly at them and they are above a certain velocity. Not only that, but the whip “charges” them with light so it gives off a luminescence similar to the whip. It adds more interaction with the world, charged objects when broken will have a special effect too. I still have to work on the sword affecting objects as well, but this is a good feature I had not originally intended.
To finish off I changed the widget on the swing points to purple from red, at least I think it’s purple. I wanted it to reflect the color of the light that comes from the lantern. And red on the swing points looked too aggressive, or even similar to a stoplight. I will continue to work on being able to use the objects in the world. It feels good to be able to use the whip to attack the boss with a chair. Adds variety and more options. Plus very cool pretty lights.
