Combat and melee work

Baked some lighting just before moving on to adjusting and fixing some of the melee animations for the boss and player. The boss had some attacks that looked weird in game so I made sure they worked better either by changing certain root settings or adjusting whether it affected his upper body or his whole body instead. There was also an attack I removed because it just wouldn’t work right. Anyway he had a lot of good attacks. Less is more in this case. I adjusted a lot of the notifications so the damage was accurate because there were times where the boss could hurt the player even if the attack shouldn’t have actually hit the player.

I then moved on to the player where I wanted to give more forward movement to all the attacks because it is hard to gauge the distance for melee attacks and I wanted it to be easier to get a hit in. Without the forward movement you would have to be really close nearly up in front of your target just to get a hit in. I merely keyed the root position in the animation so it would move forward slightly. I might adjust it back and forth but at least I got it working properly where it moves with the attack that doesn’t look too wonky. The optimization are going great but I still can’t beat the boss consistently at the moment. Either he hits too hard or the player doesn’t have enough life. I have to think about how I want to balance the game.

The whip may be a little too weak, I want it to be a satisfying option for attack as well without being overpowered. So I will review my numbers for damage and health and continue to scale everything as I feel is right. With the stage it is still a bit too dark but I got the lighting baked to where I want it so I won’t touch anything else but the post processing at least so I don’t have to build lighting again for awhile. Other than a few hitches when you play it standalone everything works as intended for now. I haven’t encountered a massive glitch/bug/issue in awhile.

The plans are to make sure the visibility isn’t too limited, I want the lantern to be important but I don’t want to strain people’s eyes with the blanket of darkness. Then I may start to work on adding simple tutorial messages and figuring out the flow of instructions since this is supposed to be the first stage.
