The problem with how I was doing my current puzzles was that if you run into them again the answer doesn’t change. I took inspiration from Dishonored 2 and came with up with a way that the answer to the bell ringing during the boss fight is always different. I couldn’t change the puzzle within the clock cottage itself, since it has way more steps and is more involved, but for the boss I am happy with how it turned out.
I had to upload each individual decal for the cipher, so it may annoy players to have to learn it, but I think that may be part of the fun. I also was able to adjust the second part where it follows the position that a clock arm would have on a clock. Then I was able to make a loop logic work well. Everything came to place and it added variety to a fight, it won’t change in the middle of the fight, but I’m sure people won’t be able to be it on the first encounter, that’s what I am expecting at least.
I am starting on working on the end to the fight, which includes the conclusion of the stage’s story, so I added a new death sound. And I went back to the model I had and trimmed it down so I could make as base model for the people if I want to make variations. I made a basic looking person that should appear by the end of the fight. I also added rocks to the stage to throw around and have fun it. They’re heavy and a bit hard to throw precisely, I’m not sure if its the size or just the way I implemented the throwing.
I had to make sure the heavy objects appeared light when moved by the whip, that way when the player tries to move them normally they won’t budge, it gives the sense that the force applied by the light power is immense.
I ran into a few problems trying to get the guy to appear inside the boss at the end of the fight. It had to do with its natural collisions which I forgot to turn off. Then I made sure it had a proper animation so it wasn’t just a plain statue.
It truly feels lacking without music, but just a few more improvements and I think I will be done with most of the stage. Then I will learn how to properly implement a music and sound system into the game itself so it is easy adjusted in the settings.
