Finished up the new model of the second boss last week. Had to start from scratch again in blender because I couldn’t figure out why the last model wasn’t importing to the engine properly.
Quickly before I started plugging in everything for the new boss I made the quick montage for the time shadow of the last boss I made. Easy enough. Then I retargeted all the animations I got from a pack that was on sale a month ago. It was an asset of creature animations that I thought were perfect for this boss. It adds to how creepy and monstrous the enemy is.
I copied over all the base assets from the AI and it was much smoother than last time. Thanks to all the updates I made all I had to do was make sure it was specific to the new boss and its functions. I made sure the animations were plugged into its movement blend space. Then I added the animations for it getting hurt, and functionality for its attacks.
I don’t know if its costly to have these many new objects for each enemy I make, but since they are very different there doesn’t seem to be a reason to keep them the same. She has no weapons only her hands, and I have to think about other interesting interactions with the other boss and also the environment if I can. I added all the attack montages from the asset that I thought would work well, and I made sure the capsule was the appropriate size. I had a lot of issues with its size, for some reason it would block it from attacking and even moving in some cases. And I also made sure its time shadow attacks matched its normal attacks as well.
After some testing it is a pretty difficult boss which I want it to be. Especially since its the third level. Together with the other boss, fighting two of them is going to be the toughest challenge of the game so far. I still have to come up with how the weaknesses will be exploited, and lots of testing of the fight. So far so good with this boss.
The assets with the creature animations made it very easy to create the boss, because all the animations were very well made and required no changes. I am going to continue working on the AI of both bosses to make sure they have some sort of awareness of each other if it isn’t too difficult for me.
