Had my girlfriend playtest the game, and caught a few more bugs and issues I wanted to fix. I made sure that the function for progressing the player’s power/abilities only works once. It was possible to spam the input so you could go further than you’re supposed to. It was very silly of me to not notice that was possible.
I thought I fixed the sound of the jump but it was still iffy. I instead created two variables that tracks the height the player is falling then the height they land. I subtract the two from each other to get the multiplier for the jump sound. It works better and more consistently than anything else I have done so far.
The visibility of the boss bars wasn’t great because I didn’t put a background on it, so it wasn’t that clear how much life they had actually lost. Then I rearranged some of the tutorials to make it flow a bit better. I changed the color of the shield power to a color that was more clear. Grey was too similar to the color of the UI when certain things were disabled or not selected. And the new color is cooler looking too.
The healing and life siphon powers were a bit too slow so I sped them up a little. Since the heal is expensive and limited, I don’t want to make it too hard to use it in a pinch. Then I made sure that the player will fully heal when they saved the game. It didn’t occur to me to do it before because there hasn’t really been danger of the player getting hurt before a fight. But I may add more dangers eventually and the player can also hurt themselves. I also made sure the players can’t abuse this by regenerating their Primelight, so I reset the resource bar to its original state.
I started working on creating social media accounts and preparing for a community. I have to study a lot of other games and especially indie developers with how they handle their accounts. The discord channel will take a lot of work too because I have to make sure that it is moderated properly. I have also found a course on how to create a steam page. It is entirely free so I have that lined up to watch. Other than that I have researched on possible things I can get from Fiverr such as a game logo and music. There is a lot I cannot do myself and I need affordable art.
There is a lot to do and prepare for, a lot of this will certainly decide the future of the game.
