Today I’ve learned to read the comments before watching an old video over and over again. I didn’t do any work on the game and instead learned how to upload a build of the game on steam. This specific build is a demo of the game which I am currently considering if I should upload one way before I the game itself is actually finished. I was hoping it would be good exposure for the game but I think I will do more research about how a demo can affect what people think of the game.
Anyway I quickly prepared a packaged version of the game that doesn’t progress passed the first stage. Then I learned about what necessary lines should be in an engine file for steam integration. It wasn’t too difficult. The trouble game in uploading the actual game. Since the tutorial video was from 2016 there have been many updates to their tools since then. Apparently there was a specific tool that already makes uploading easier. At least I can use it for next time.
I first didn’t put the right names for the depot ID and then there were errors with the upload. It took several hours and several tries until it finally got onto steamworks. Now it is under review and should hopefully work on steam once it is approved.
I wanted to see what the process was like so I am prepared for the future. Not too bad. Now gonna get back to working on the game.
