Started the first course of my reasonably lengthy list of courses. The sound and space lessons were fairly straightforward but hard to master. I continue to gain more respect for those working in game development and hone their specific skills. I do what I can to understand the surface of each aspect of what goes into making a game. I learned about adding reverb using Audio volumes and having sound be different inside and outside this space. It was useful to see how the teacher handled certain events and even blueprints. I was glad to see that his blueprints were quite messy. Even if it was just for a lesson.
There is so much more to the functions and elements of sound that I discovered and need to play around with. The most important thing for me to do after these lessons is to apply them to my game. That works best for me, so I don’t forget what I learned, and I can implement something right when the idea is fresh. I jumped into the engine in between some videos to test out what I learned. So far, the audio volume adding reverb sounds really nice in an indoor setting. I encountered some issues with trying to set up the ambient settings, but I’m going to continue experimenting.
Several times I have watched people use sequencer, and during this lesson, I think I finally got a firm understanding of its basics. I probably wasn’t in the right headspace the other times I tried to learn sequencer. But it took a lesson on sound to show me how I can set up certain sequences using the tool, which will be very handy.
I learned how moving sound through space by using spline or vectors can be effective. There are a lot of techniques and philosophies I am starting to see. Sound is definitely one of the most important parts of games, in my opinion. I need to be more meticulous when adjusting the sounds. In my game, there are many sounds that I am not happy with. Before starting my next course, I will improve the sound systems and files using what I have learned. Glad to be back completing lessons.
