Widgets galore

Started off by figuring out how to get settings to work in the main menu. My biggest issue was that most of the save data I use is stored on the character. If there are multiple save slots I am not sure how to load the most recent one into the starting level. But insteadContinueContinue reading “Widgets galore”

The Spear

Got a new animation asset for a spear. It is great and I spent all day making sure that all the animations plugged in properly to the boss. Then I adjusted the spear so it would be properly equipped and stored the variable information I needed for it to go into the right position. IContinueContinue reading “The Spear”

Sizes and settings

Finished filling out my information for steam. Now I have to wait a few days to see if they will approve me and then I should be able to finally create a steam page. While waiting I updated the thumbnail to the trailer I have yet to release. Hopefully Steam gets back to me beforeContinueContinue reading “Sizes and settings”

Steam stuff

I am nearly, almost, just a bit more to finish for the course on creating a steam page. I spent some time reaching out and finding more artists online to do work for me. And I was able to find a guy to make music. I have sent him a sample of the current musicContinueContinue reading “Steam stuff”

A wider world

I finally created a simple discord channel for the game. The research involved was looking at other discord channels for indie games and took what I thought was important and relevant for my channel. I took a bot that could moderate the server well and I created rooms to help keep it organized. Hopefully allContinueContinue reading “A wider world”

Whips and clarity

When I decided to cutback on the voice lines I realized I can create a speaker, a narrator. Similar to what Super Giant did for Bastion and Transistor. This way I don’t have to create many lines for all the characters, and I can have a few interesting lines from the narrator that is speaking.ContinueContinue reading “Whips and clarity”

Splat

I realized I could make a separate event where the trigger of the whip’s disappear could be called again and again. Previously I had it attached at the end which is why it didn’t work well because the timing would overlap to when the whip was appearing. Essentially this works to always make sure theContinueContinue reading “Splat”

Day by day

Found a nice high resolution picture of a textured paper or something that appears to be parchment. I used it as background for all the UI elements and it looks pretty great. It makes the words pop out and it makes it more interesting to look at overall. For awhile now I have been tryingContinueContinue reading “Day by day”

Video Settings

I worked through and learned all the available settings that Unreal engine lets the developer change within the game itself. I started out with foliage because that one would be the most obvious in the cottage stage. Once I turned the foliage down to low all the flowers disappear. So if the setting changes properlyContinueContinue reading “Video Settings”

From scratch

After a lot of work with the UMG, I now have a better understanding of it. So I improved a lot of the messages and things on the screen such as the tutorial messages and the description of the items. It makes it look a lot cleaner and nicer, especially for the item description becauseContinueContinue reading “From scratch”
